EXT. CITY – NIGHT
Establishing shot
INT. /EXT. COURIER’S CAR – NIGHT
DETECTIVE
This
city is full of all
kinds
of people: good,
bad,
mostly the latter.
COURIER gets in the car carrying a briefcase,
tosses it on the passenger seat
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
I
never knew him, he might’ve
been
okay. Goes to Church, decent
job,
maybe had some family to.
COURIER puts on gloves
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
But
that doesn’t make him
perfect.
Just when you think
you’ve
met an average nobody
COURIER checks his mirror
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
You’re
actually looking
At
a monster who wants
to
play ‘dress-up’.
COURIER looks at mirror
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
Pretending
what they really are is a joke.
COURIER turns car keys, turns to briefcase
NARRATOR
(CONT’D)
But
who am I to judge? My
job
doesn’t make me a saint.
COURIER looks at window, breathes heavy
sigh
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
I’ve
investigated all sorts of
cases,
I just didn’t expect this
one
to be biggest.
COURIER drives off
Detective
(CONT’D)
In
for a penny, in for a pound.
EXT. BRISTOL - NIGHT
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
It
all started over a week ago, an
Anonymous
caller wanted to meet me
Privately
in a discreet location.
DETECTIVE walks toward location
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
It
could’ve been a prank or trap,
but
I had a gut-feeling that it
was
the honest truth, so stupid.
CLIENT approaches DETECTIVE
CLIENT
Were
you followed?
DETECTIVE turns to CLIENT
DETECTIVE
Can’t
say I know for sure.
So…
what do you need?
CLIENT gives DETECTIVE photo of COURIER, DETECTIVE
analyses photo
CLIENT
An
old friend of mine is missing.
DETECTIVE takes out note pad and pen,
begins writing.
DETECTIVE
Where
did you last see him?
CLIENT
My
house, kicked out
Of
his flat, over due rent.
DETECTIVE
How
long has he been gone?
CLIENT
Three
days.
DETECTIVE
Any
idea where he might be?
CLIENT looks down guiltily.
EXT. BRISTOL – NIGHT
COURIER walks through alley
CLIENT
No,
he always leaves at
Night
and comes back in
The
middle of the day.
COURIER is looking around, making sure no
one followed him
CLIENT
(CONT’D)
And
he always carries a black
suitcase
whenever he goes out.
HITMAN sitting back against a wall, COURIER
doesn’t notice him
DETECTIVE
Does
he have a night job?
HITMAN puts on coat and hat as he rises
from ground
CLIENT
He
hasn’t been employed for
Years,
but there are rumours
Going
around that he’s been
HITMAN walks to COURIER, doesn’t notice
HITMAN
CLIENT
(CONT’D)
In
and out of places
Around
the city.
EXT. BRISTOL – NIGHT
DETECTIVE continues writing notes
DETECTIVE
What
kind of places?
CLIENT
Shops,
factories, hotels,
you
name it, but he always
mentioned
THE GOLDEN JACKAL
DETECTIVE
The
pub, been there once
Didn’t
like their chips
Alright,
if you have
Anything
else, give me a call…
HITMAN aims gun at COURIER, cocks gun;
COURIER turns around in shock
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
Don’t
worry, I’m on the case.

FADE IN:
EXT. CITY – NIGHT
Establishing shot
INT. /EXT. COURIER’S CAR – NIGHT
DETECTIVE
Shots
were fired, some kid left
For
dead like a baby in a bin;
Out
of sight out of mind.
COURIER gets in the car carrying a
briefcase, tosses it on the passenger seat
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
I
never knew the guy, he might’ve
been
okay. Goes to Church, has a
job,
maybe even loved his family.
COURIER puts on gloves
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
Probably
met a mugger on the way
home,
or a run-in with THE ARTIST
COURIER checks his mirror
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
But
here’s how I see it: your
wallet
isn’t empty, and some
psycho
didn’t carve you up.
COURIER smiles at mirror
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
But
your ID is gone.
COURIER turns car keys, turns to briefcase
NARRATOR
(CONT’D)
Somebody
killed you in this
Rotting
city for a reason…
COURIER adjusts wire, looks at window,
breathes heavy sigh
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
…and
I’m not gonna let some
tosser
get away with this.
COURIER drives off
EXT. BRISTOL – NIGHT
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
Nothing
in the papers and no word
From
the boys in blue, they’re
‘Playing
dumb’ over a dead teen.
DETECTIVE walks toward AUGUSTINE
DETECTIVE
(CONT’D)
Maybe
THE GOSSIP knows something?
DETECTIVE
AUGUSTINE…
AUGUSTINE turns to the DETECTIVE, gasps
DETECTIVE
…Or
do you prefer
GUS
THE GOSSIP?
AUGUSTINE draws her gun. DETECTIVE raises
his hands slightly
AUGUSTINE
BACK
OFF, I DIDN”T
DO
ANYTHING!
DETECTIVE
Well
we both know
That’s
a lie.
AUGUSTINE releases the safety
DETECTIVE
Relax.
I’m the one who called.
AUGUSTINE lowers her gun hesitantly,
extends left arm
AUGUSTINE
Well
cough it up then.
DETECTIVE reaches into his pocket, and
calmly hands some money to AUGUSTINE; she puts her gun away and counts the
cash.
DETECTIVE
I’m
told you can be a very…
reliable
source of information.
AUGUSTINE
Well
you heard right. But
What
is it that the town
Nutter
doesn’t know already.
EXT. ALLEY – NIGHT
COURIER walks into alley
DETECTIVE
CCTV
shows that the victim
Was
last seen in NELSON ST
HITMAN follows soon after
DETECTIVE
20km
away from the scene of
the
crime, he was being followed.
HITMAN draws syringe, he injects the
COURIER and covers his screams. The COURIER stumbles. The HITMAN raises his
pistol, and fires.
DETECTIVE
There
was a struggle,
But
ended shortly after
The
assailant shot him.
COURIER
dying on the floor, the HITMAN proceeds to take the briefcase
EXT. BRISTOL – NIGHT
DETECTIVE
I
arrived soon afterwards,
But
the coppers kicked me
Out
before I was finished.
AUGUSTINE
And
you need my help because…
DETECTIVE
You
and I know the bullets didn’t
kill
him, the perpetrator made
it
appear like a messy ID theft.
AUGUSTINE shows signs of worry on her face
and looks down, leans on wall/rail.
DETECTIVE
He
may have been
Carrying
a package
AUGUSTINE
(Sigh)
His name is – was
ALAN,
he’s an errand boy
One of many… for THE APE
DETECTIVE
That
brute hires kids
to
get his mail now?
AUGUSTINE
He
uses kids to transfer his
products
to his ‘businesses’
normally
during the day.
DETECTIVE
Why
was ALAN out late?
AUGUSTINE motions the DETECTIVE to get
closer.
AUGUSTINE
ALAN
was supposed to deliver
a
secret package from THE APE.
The
steady balance the underworld
Has
been building up for years is cracking
DETECTIVE
And
it all depends upon a case.
